What is Lagree?

Lagree Method is a fitness modality created by Sebastian Lagree. It uses slow, controlled movements on a machine called a Megaformer. The result is a high-intensity, and low-impact, full-body workout built around continuous time under tension. Every movement is deliberate, so your muscles stay engaged from the first minute of class to the last without pounding your joints.

Is Lagree good for beginners?

Yes. Lagree welcomes complete beginners at all levels of fitness. At Resistance, instructors scale every movement to your level, giving you options to control your own resistance and pace. Arrive about ten minutes early for your first class and we'll walk you through the Megaformer before we start. Most people feel comfortable on the machine within a single session.

Is it okay to do Lagree when pregnant?

Lagree may be appropriate during pregnancy, depending on your health and exercise history. Check with your doctor or midwife before taking class, especially if you’re new to the workout. Let your instructor know before class that you’re pregnant so they can offer modifications, including alternatives to lying on your stomach or back and moves that challenge your balance. Listen to your body, take breaks, and stop if anything feels uncomfortable or you feel unwell. Stay hydrated and avoid overheating. If you’re new to vigorous exercise, ask your care team about suitable activities before starting. Some of our instructors hold independent certifications in prenatal fitness - if you have any concerns please email us:

What should I bring to my first Lagree class?

Wear fitted athletic clothing you can move freely in, and bring water. Socks are required to help us maintain a sanitary environment. Grip socks are highly recommended — if you don't have a pair, we sell them at the studio for $14. That's everything; we provide the machines and any small equipment your class needs. We have filtered water filling stations in all of our studios.

Is Lagree the same as Pilates?

Lagree leverages concepts from Pilates among other fitness disciplines— core control, precise form, and a slow, deliberate tempo — but these are generally pushed further than traditional reformer Pilates. The springs on the Megaformer allow for heavier resistance and classes are sequences and paced for higher intensity. Both stay low-impact and joint-friendly. If you enjoy Pilates, Lagree will feel familiar at first, then noticeably harder as the constant tension builds.

What is a Megaformer?

The Megaformer is the spring-loaded machine at the center of every Lagree class. It has a moving carriage and fixed platforms, with springs you add or remove to change the resistance. By sliding the carriage slowly against that tension, you train strength, balance, and endurance at once — all without impact on your knees, hips, or spine.

How much do Lagree classes cost in Chicago?

At Resistance, your first class is $19 — normally $37 — or you can choose a $69 introductory offer for four classes during your first month. A single drop-in is $37, and monthly memberships range from $99 to $275 depending on how often you train. Class packs are also available. We rarely do promotional discounts and never discount our memberships.

Do you offer private training?

Yes, we offer private training. You may reach out to info@resistancechicago.com or text us. To request a specific instructor or time slot, share your needs and availability so we can help match you with the best instructor. Pricing varies by instructor and is dependent on studio availability.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancel at least four hours before class to avoid losing your credit. ClassPass and other third-party bookings are subject to the policies stated on their platform - we often don't have control over how these are implemented. Unlimited members get one late-cancel / no-show exception per month but may be charged a $19 fee for subsequent absences that were not early canceled.

How hard is Lagree? Will I be sore?

Honestly, it's very challenging — the slow tempo and constant tension make even short sets demanding. But because it's low-impact, the intensity lives in your muscles, not your joints. Some soreness after your first few classes is normal and fades as your body adapts. Rest, hydrate, and it settles quickly.

How often should I do Lagree?

Two sessions a week builds a steady habit; three or four accelerates results - we have memberships that allow for any level of commitment. There's no single correct number — listen to your body, let your progress guide you, and stay consistent over time. If you are booking your first class, we recommend waiting until the following day to book your second session so that you can get a feel for your needed recovery time.
